Students from Canberra will be lucky enough to hear from Tim Jarvis, about the incredible Antarctic expeditions he has completed, whilst being involved in this year’s National Tour Launch. Tim will present to a live audience as schools from around Australia articipate in a live interactive video conference.

Presenting to the general public, Hazel will discuss the microbial life we live in. Microscopic life is too small to be seen with the naked eye, it surrounds us, regulates our metabolism and with our help, recycles nutrients and controls the biosphere.

This is an opportunity for Perth’s primary school students to experience a question and answer session with the Naked Scientist.

Tim will present ‘When Hell Freezes’ to approximately 250 high school students. This presentation will give students an insight into the scientific detective expedition that retraced Sir Douglas Mawson’s polar survival journey.

With the extreme conditions found in our solar system and the discovery of water on Mars, Hazel Barton is studying microorganisms to understand how they survive in the subsurface. Understanding their survival relates to the search for extra terrestrial life in outer space. Katherine will welcome Hazel as she discusses her research and understanding of this fascinating interaction.

Led by local Mount Gambier cavers, Hazel will be taken on a short expedition around the local caves. Hazel will pass on her expertise and illustrate her distinctive research around the microbial world.
