Feast on a smorgasbord of science throughout Ultimo from 16 to 28 August 2011.

Could you make yourself disappear with an invisibility cloak? Can bacteria be teleported from one place to another? Can a banana be used as a hammer?

Find out the answers to these questions and more at The Ultimo Science Festival in Sydney, NSW - two weeks of serious science fun for families, school groups, for young, and old and in-between, for geeks and non-geeks.

There's something for anyone who wants to expand their mind, think about the world and wonder about how stuff works and why it is so.

Highlights include:

• Hear top science speakers at the Ultimo Big Night of Science, including US theoretical physicist Lawrence Krauss, plus the Great Big Science Gig – a very funny, very clever Science-Rock-Cabaret from CSIRO. All this with the bar open, live music in the foyer and serious science to ponder.
• Popular Maths-Comedian Simon Pampena's new show The Probability Drive explains the maths behind The Lucky Country. A hit show from Adelaide Fringe and Melbourne Comedy Festivals.
• Tour the state-of-the-art laboratories at UTS Science's Forensics unit.
• Learn about the voyage of chocolate - join Galit Segev, a qualified chef with a master's degree in Food Science and Biochemistry at a talk no chocoholic should miss!
• Experience weird food dining as molecular gastronomy comes to Ultimo. Book your seat at the Weird Food Dinner, where TAFE students create tantalising unconventional recipes.

For the young and young at heart:

• Stay overnight in the Powerhouse Museum at the Big Science Sleepover.
• Watch ABC's Surfing Scientist, Ruben Meerman from Catalyst and Rollercoaster, perform mind-boggling science tricks from his books.
• Be a hands-on scientist and make your own silly slime, build your own models of molecules, or test the pH of water and plot it on a map.

The Ultimo Science Festival offers a huge range of things to hear, see and do during National Science Week. The Festival is held along Harris St in Ultimo, five minutes' walk from Sydney's Central Railway.

The Ultimo Science Festival is presented by the Powerhouse Museum, the ABC, the University of Technology, Sydney and TAFE NSW and supported by the Australian Government and the City of Sydney.
