South Australia

National Science Week continues to grow bigger and better each year! Science Week in South Australia extends for almost 3 weeks, with exciting events taking place throughout the state.

Thinking of Running an Event?

Through the financial support of the Government of South Australia (via DFEEST), we are pleased to offer a number of small grants (upper limit of $2000) to organisations who might need financial support to run an event in August in National Science Week. Applications closed 15 June.

Unsung Hero of South Australian Science Awards

National Science Week (SA) and Australian Science Communicators (SA) conduct the Unsung Hero of South Australian Science Awards. These awards honour a particular person or group who exemplifies the aims and objectives of National Science Week and Australian Science Communicators (SA).

There are 2 awards: the Unsung Hero of South Australian Science and the Unsung Hero of South Australian Science Communication.

The nominee should be a person, people or group who have not yet received significant recognition for their contribution to science and/or science communication.

Entries closed 2 July.

Science Alive!

Science Alive! is one of the premier events in SA. This huge FREE community event will be held on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th August 2010 in the huge Goyder Pavillion of the Adelaide Showgrounds at Wayville.

Science Alive! will be even bigger this year! There will be more of everything: spectacular science shows, hands-on experiments, mini-planetariums, interactive exhibits, solar cars, electronics, native animals, robotics, flight simulators and so much more, including over 50 booths.

Patron of National Science Week (SA) is internationally acclaimed science communicator, Dr Rob Morrison OAM. Rob Morrison and Deanne Hutton will reunite for a number of performances of the hugely successful TV science show, The Curiosity Show.

If you would like to showcase your science organisation at this event which attracts tens of thousands of people, please contact Rona Sakko (details below).

Careers @ Science Alive!

Friday 6 August will be an additional day especially for high schools. Careers @ Science Alive! will feature workshops and presentations from young scientists and engineers who are forging exciting careers in locally-based organisations. Activities throughout the day include driving robots, making electronic circuits, hands-on experiments and discovering the weird and wonderful worlds of the sciences, maths and engineering.

And there is so much more…

Other events include astronomical viewing evenings, electronics workshops, Science in the Pub, scientific rock concerts and so much more. Presentations range from hands-on science experiments, lectures and interactive presentations to behind-the-scenes tours and spectacular science shows.
