The Big Report

Schools kids enjoying taking part in The Big Report

During National Science Week schools across Australia and The Weather Channel have smashed the Guinness World RecordĀ® for the world's largest interactive weather report!

A total of 502 schools measured the temperature in their playground at midday AEST on Wednesday 18 August and submitted the readings to The Weather Channel, via their website. All the results were then broadcast as part of The Big Report that night.

The Big Report trounced the previous record held by the BBC, in the UK, who had 261 schools submit a temperature reading.

Schools from every corner of Australia participated in the world record attempt including Braeside Primary in Katanning, Western Australia; Araluen Christian College in Alice Springs; Tagai State College in the Torres Strait and Lindisfarne Primary in Tasmania.

Weather Channel staff were amazed by the diversity of the schools who signed up to participate. From home schools to special needs schools, foreign language schools to one-teacher schools, this was an aspect of National Science Week that every sort of school could, and did participate in!

Congratulations to everyone involved! We hope your experiences during National Science Week will inspire you to keep investigating the science of the world around you!
